Whoever forgets the oath has not broken it
About six years ago, a man jokingly said to my mother, "Would you marry me to your daughter?" When my mother told me that, I swore by Allaah The Exalted that I would not marry that man, though the proposal was neither formal nor serious. Now, I am married to someone whom I sometimes doubt to be the man who had talked to my mother about marrying me six years ago, given that I cannot remember that person (I cannot tell if he was my husband on not!). When I told my husband of that, he said that he does not remember that he talked to my mother about that matter. What should I do?
You are required to do nothing if you had married that man while forgetting all about that oath or being unaware that he was the very man whom you swore not to marry. Allaah Knows best.
