The due time of the Farewell Tawaaf

Is it permissible to perform the Farewell Tawaaf two days before I leave Makkah, given that I frequent the Ka‘bah and pray there after the Farewell Tawaaf?

The due time of the Farewell Tawaaf

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

The Farewell Tawaaf is performed after completing all the Hajj rituals and fulfilling all one's needs in Makkah. One is required to immediately leave Makkah after the Farewell Tawaaf unless there is an excuse. This is the preponderant opinion according to the majority of scholars. An-Nawawi, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said:

The Farewell Tawaaf should be performed after completing all the Hajj rituals and a pilgrim should immediately leave Makkah after performing it. If he remained in Makkah without an acceptable excuse or for something other than the procedures of departure, such as buying some needs, paying back a debt, visiting a friend or a sick person, one is required to perform Tawaaf again.

Accordingly, you should know that waiting for two days after performing the Farewell Tawaaf entails another Tawaaf.

The person who performed the Farewell Tawaaf and remained in Makkah for two days and then departed without performing Tawaaf again, he has abandoned one of the obligations of Hajj. Therefore, he is required to offer the compensation, which is slaughtering a sacrificial animal.

Allaah Knows best.
